NORTH SOUND: Sri Lanka sealed a convincing victory over South Africa; defeating the latter by 65 runs in the 5th place play-off semi final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, here on Sunday.

Set to chase 233, the South African batting line-up failed completely and was bowled for a paltry 167. Ronan Hermann and Gerhardus Maree fought hard for their side but could not manage to turn things around.

Hermann scored 34 up the order, while the middl-order batter – Maree top scored with his 44, whereas, the rest of the batters made little to no contribution in the run chase.

For Sri Lanka, Raveen de Silva, Shevon Daniel, and Treveen Matthew claimed two wickets each, while Dunith Wellalage and Wanuja Sahan shared one wicket apiece.

Batting first, Sri Lanka managed to post a commendable total of 232 in the allotted 50 overs, thanks to their skipper – Wellalage, who scored a magnificent century and led the way for his side.

Wellalage scored an astonishing 113 off 130 balls, laced with nine boundaries and four sixes, while Ranuda Somarathne also chipped in and scored a magnificent half-century. He remained unbeaten for his 57 off 70 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes.

For the Proteas, Kwena Maphaka starred; taking three wickets, while Matthew Boast picked two. Dewald Brevis, on the other hand, made one scalp.

In the 13th Place Play-off, Uganda stunned Scotland; winning the match by 51 runs.

Set to chase 227, the Scottish batting line-up could only manage to score 170; handing a massive victory to Uganda by 51 runs. Oliver Davidson and Jack Jarvis showed grit, while the rest of the batters failed to make an impact with the bat.

Davidson scored 31, while Jarvis remained top-scorer for the side with his quick 37 off just 33 balls, laced with six boundaries and a maximum.

For Uganda, Juma Miyaji bagged four wickets, while Christopher Kidega claimed three. Pius Olaka, on the other hand took two wickets.

Batting first, Uganda managed to score 226 despite a horrible start; losing the first wicket for just one run. Ronald Lutaaya and the skipper – Pascal Murungi then batted valiantly and partnered strongly to anchor the innings.

Murungi scored 49, while Lutaaya top-scored with 64 off 78 balls; smashing six boundaries and two sixes.

Jamie Cairns was the pick of the bowler for Scotland; picking six wickets, while Davidson, Jarvis and Sean Fischer-Keogh shared one wicket apiece.
