Sri Lanka Cricket ‘very confident’ of hosting Asia Cup 2022

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has displayed confidence in hosting the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 despite the ongoing economic crisis and political unrest in the country.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, SLC in consultation with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will make a final decision on July 15 regarding the hosting of the Asia Cup.

Meanwhile, SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva has expressed his confidence in hosting the continental event as per the initial plans.

“As far as we are concerned, we are still very confident of hosting the tournament in Sri Lanka,” de Silva told Cricinfo.

“We have just hosted the Australian tour with two Tests in Galle, and Pakistan are in the country as well. So, we are positive right now,” he said.

According to the initial details, the tournament will be played in the T20I format, scheduled to commence on August 27. Whereas, the qualifying round will be held from August 20 to 26 in the country.

Furthermore, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Hong Kong, Singapore, and Kuwait will play the qualifying round in an attempt to join the five full-member Asian Teams – Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan – in the main round.
