The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday, accepted Lahiru Thirimanne’s decision of retiring from all formats of international cricket.
In a statement, the SLC revealed that the Executive Committee accepted Thirimanne’s resignation during a meeting held recently.
“Sri Lanka Cricket’s Executive Committee accepted the resignation of Lahiru Thirimanne from playing all forms of International Cricket,” said SLC in a statement.
“This follows a resignation letter the player sent to Sri Lanka Cricket announcing his intention to retire from playing international cricket for his country.
“The Executive Committee decided to accept the resignation letter of Thirimanne during a Meeting held recently.”
The CEO of SLC, Ashley de Silva acknowledged Lahiru Thirimanne’s services while also wish him well for future endeavours.
“We take this opportunity to wish Thirimanne the best in his future endeavours, and his services to Sri Lanka Cricket covering all forms of the game will be well remembered,’ said Ashley De Silva.
It is worth mentioning here that Lahiru Thirimanne, who represented Sri Lanka in 44 Test matches, 127 ODIs, and 26 T20Is, announced to bid farewell to international cricket last month.
“As a player I have given my best, I have tried my best, I have respected the game and I have done my duty honestly and ethically to my motherland,” Thirimanne posted on Facebook.
“It was a difficult decision to make, but I cannot mention here the many unexpected reasons that influenced me to take this decision willingly or unwillingly. I take this opportunity to thank the SLC members, my coaches, teammates, physios, trainers and analysts for their support and encouragement.”.
Amid his 13-year-long career, Thirimanne accumulated 5573 runs across formats with the help of seven centuries and 31 half-centuries.
He was also a part of Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2014.
