South Africa’s Mignon du Preez announces retirement from Tests and ODIs

JOHANNESBURG: South Africa’s batter Mignon du Preez has announced her retirement from Test and ODI cricket, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Thursday.

Du Preez, who represented South Africa in 154 ODIs, scoring 3760 runs at an average of 32.98 including two centuries and 18 half-centuries, has decided to call off her career. Whereas, she also played one Test match in which she scored 119 runs at an average of 59.5.

The right-handed batter bid adieu to longer formats in order to focus more on T20s and to spend more time with her family.

Du Preez last represented South Africa in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 and scored 161 runs, including a half-century to help her side reach the Semi-final of the mega event.

Taking to Twitter, CSA shared the announcement and the statement of Du Preez regarding her retirement from the longer formats.

“I have been wonderfully fortunate to play in four ICC ODI World Cups to date,” the statement read.

“These have been some of my most treasured memories in life. I would however love to prioritise time with my family, and hopefully start a family of my own soon,” the statement quoted du Preez.
