MADRID: Getafe goalkeeper David Soria denied a penalty and bolstered his side to hang on for a draw against city rivals Ray Vallecano 0-0 in the ongoing La Liga 2022-23.
Rayo dominated possession but came no closer to scoring than Oscar Trejo’s penalty kick in the 53rd minute following a handball in the area by Fabrizio Angileri.
However, Soria stood tall and blocked the kick, keeping the scoreboard blank.
In the 71st minute, Rayo substitute Radamel Falcao saw a goal ruled out for offside by VAR.
The goalless draw in the Madrid derby left Rayo in 10th place, while Getafe inched into 14th place with just three points behind Rayo.
Rayo will play another derby away at Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, while Getafe will host Athletic Club on October 18 at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
