Left-arm pacer Sohail Tanvir, known for his unorthodox bowling action, announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on Monday. 

Tanvir, who earned a reputation as a specialist T20 bowler, came to the scene for the first when he was picked by Pakistan for the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. His wrong-footed leap and unique bowling style caught everyone by surprise and troubled the batters greatly playing him for the first time.

He took 54 wickets while representing Pakistan in 57 T20Is between 2007 and 2017. He was also part of the Green Shirts’ T20 World Cup-winning team in 2009.  The left-arm quick also played two Tests and 62 ODIs in which he bagged 5 and 71 wickets respectively.

Calling time on his international career, Tanvir said he would ‘continue to play domestic and franchise cricket’

“I am retiring from all formats of international cricket and will continue to play domestic and franchise cricket going forward. Thank you to @TheRealPCB for giving me the opportunity to play for my country” he tweeted on Monday.

Tanvir remained one of the most sought-after players in the franchise leagues around the world. Representing Rajasthan Royal in the first-ever edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he remained the leading wicket-taker of the season with 22 wickets.

In Pakistan Super League (PSL), Tanvir played for Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators between 2016 and 2022. He has 55 wickets to his credit in 61 PSL matches.
