MULTAN: Pakistan captain Shan Masood has shared the reasons behind his team’s 120-run defeat in the second Test against West Indies here on Monday.

West Indies left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican claimed a five-wicket haul to bundle Pakistan for 133 in the second innings to help his team level the two-match series 1-1.

This was West Indies’ first Test win in Pakistan since their seven-wicket triumph under the captaincy of Desmond Haynes in Faisalabad back in 1990.

Shan Masood, during the post-match presentation, acknowledged his team’s shortcomings, while giving credit to West Indies’ batters for their effort on a challenging pitch.

“They batted well, but that’s something that we have to learn. We have struggled to get the tail out here, something that we did well in South Africa and Australia,” said Masood.

“Even in the game we lost right now, the first day, we were in a position where we wanted to be, just one bad performance and it led to a domino effect.

“But you can’t forget the way we have played right through. We have realised that one extra partnership can have a big effect on games, that’s what we want to learn quickly.”

Masood also highlighted that Pakistan have done well since turning to spin-friendly pitches and there are some positives even in this defeat.

“We did win 3 of the 4 Tests on such pitches, we did well on the first session here as well. It’s important to see some encouraging signs,” he added.

“Saud [Shakeel] and Rizzy [Mohammad Rizwan] got their fifties, I got a 60-ball fifty in the first Test, and Babar [Azam] contributed as well.

“We might not get those big hundreds, but you need to be proactive, Brathwaite took the game on with his 50 and that’s what we need to be aware of and probably be better going further.”
