KARACHI: Shan Masood has been named as Pakistan’s vice-captain for the three-match One-Day international series against New Zealand, commencing on January 9.
Shan, who made a return to the national ODI side after three years, will be Babar Azam’s deputy during the upcoming home series in the absence of Shadab Khan, who injured his index finger last week.
The left-handed batter played his last ODI in March 2019 against Australia in Dubai. He has been recalled to the One-day side along with Haris Sohail to add experience to the team.
“We have decided to recall experienced Haris Sohail and Shan Masood as we believe the two lads still have plenty to offer to Pakistan cricket,” said Interim Chief Selector Shahid Afridi on Thursday while announcing the 16-member squad.
Masood is currently part of the Pakitan’s Test side in the ongoing second Test against New Zealand.
It is pertinent to mention that the three ODI matches, part of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, between the hosts Pakistan and New Zealand will be played at National Bank Cricket Arena on January 9, 11 and 13, respectively.
Pakistan’s Squad:
Babar Azam (captain), Shan Masood (vice-captain), Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Salman Ali Agha, Shahnawaz Dahani, Tayyab Tahir and Usama Mir
