LAHORE: Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan opened up after his team’s crushing defeat against Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 Eliminator 2.
The 95-run drubbing ended defending champions United’s hopes of playing the PSL 10 final. Islamabad United started the PSL 10 with a bang, winning five out of five; however, their campaign stumbled as they lost their next four.
Despite topsy topsy-turvy league stage, United finished top two in the league stage but were beaten by Quetta Gladiators in the Qualifier.

Salman Agha top-scored with 33 off 26 balls, laced with a six and four boundaries, while Shadab Khan scored 26 off 14 balls.
Speaking in the post-match presentation, Shadab Khan emphasized strategic errors in the match and praised emerging batter Mohammad Naeem’s batting.
“I think we struggled with a few things throughout the tournament. We didn’t get wickets at crucial moments, and they took full advantage of the powerplay—especially Naeem, who batted really well. Our death bowling hasn’t been up to the mark either,” he said.
Shadab Khan also mentioned the reason behind sending all-rounder Muhammad Shahzad as a makeshift opener.
“With Alex not available today, we sent Shahzad to open. He has played most of his white-ball cricket as an opener, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out this time. That said, the pitches have been good—it ultimately comes down to execution and skill,” he explained.
The skipper aimed to bounce back in the next season, mentioning the positive outcomes of this year’s edition for his team.
“This has been a very competitive tournament. Sahibzada’s performances have been a real positive. As a team, we failed to handle key moments well, but we’ll reflect, learn, and hopefully come back stronger in the next edition,” Shadab Khan concluded.
