ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Nawaz will lead Quetta Gladiators in the absence of injured Sarfaraz Ahmed, during the team’s next Pakistan Super League season 8 clash against Peshawar Zalmi on Wednesday (today).
The Gladiators’ captain since the tournament’s inception in 2016, is set to miss his first PSL match in eight seasons. He injured his finger during his side’s last game against Karachi Kings on Monday.
According to the source, Sarafaraz has been ruled out of Wednesday’s match against Zalmi since he has not fully recovered from the niggle.
Wicket-keeper batter Bismillah Khan joined the Gladiators’ squad and is set to replace Sarfaraz in the playing XI.
Meanwhile, Nawaz will be the first player to captain Gladiators other than Sarfaraz.
It may be noted here that Gladiators sit bottom of the PSL table with 4 points and have only two matches left before the playoffs stage.
In their last encounter, Gladiators edged Karachi Kings by four wickets in a low-scoring thriller, thanks to Martin Guptill’s superb 86 under pressure.
