Salman Butt rips apart Stuart Broad over 'poor' Pakistan remarks

Former captain Salman Butt has slammed ex-England pacer Stuart Broad for calling Pakistan a ‘poor’ side.

During a podcast, Broad described Pakistan as a weaker side and said the hosts would face a huge failure if they did not win the series.

“Pakistan are a weaker side. There is no doubting that. They are a very poor side. If England don’t come away with a Test series win, it really is a huge failure for them,” Broad had said.

“You would imagine, and you would think that England should win 3-0 and pretty comfortably,” Broad opined.

Speaking on his YouTube show, Salman questioned England’s record against Australia in the Ashes, particularly their struggles on Australian soil.

“Stuart Broad was saying that Pakistan is a poor side. Okay, Pakistan isn’t playing good cricket at the moment, but what is this ‘poor team’ comment? You have a very good team, so what happens to you when you go to Australia? You lose 5-0 every time,” he said.

Salman also recalled Pakistan’s formidable bowling attack in the 1990s and compared it with England’s pace attack at the time.

“When Pakistan had a good bowling attack, what did England have? A bunch of bowlers who bowled at 120 km/h. No one from Pakistan said that England were a very poor team.”

He said Broad’s comments reflected what he described as a “superiority complex” in English cricket and questioned whether England had achieved enough away from home to make such claims.

“This is the kind of mindset they have. They have a superiority complex. They should also tell us what their performance is away from home.”

However, Salman acknowledged that Pakistan’s own Test cricket setup needs improvement, while questioning why an established cricketer like Broad would use such language.

“We accept that, and there is no second opinion that Pakistan’s framework needs improvement.  The output we want in Test cricket needs to improve.  But what is this method of using such words from an established cricketer? And what did you do when you toured Pakistan? You lost the series,” he concluded.
