Sadaf Shamas ruled out of Ireland tour

LAHORE: Pakistan women’s top-order batter Sadaf Shamas has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Ireland, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Friday.

The 26-year-old suffered a tear in her left quadriceps during a training session in Karachi, which has sidelined her from the three-match assignment in Dublin.

In her place, young batter Shawaal Zulfiqar has been drafted into the squad.

“Sadaf Shamas has been ruled out of Pakistan’s Ireland-bound T20I squad after tearing her left quadriceps muscle during a practice session in Karachi,” read the PCB’s official statement.

“The 26-year-old batter will be replaced by Shawaal Zulfiqar, who was part of the 24-player Skills camp in Karachi.”

Shawaal, who has played seven T20Is and three ODIs for Pakistan, will join the squad in Karachi before it departs for Dublin on Sunday.

Pakistan’s women’s team will face Ireland in a three-match T20I series at the Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin on August 6, 8, and 10.

Historically, Pakistan has dominated the head-to-head record, winning 15 of the 19 encounters between the two sides in the shortest format.

However, Ireland won the last T20I series between the two sides 2-1 back in 2022.
