Rohit Sharma to continue as India’s Test captain after Champions Trophy victory

India top-order batter Rohit Sharma is set to continue in his role as Test captain after his side’s unbeaten run and triumph in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

There were reports about Sharma’s removal as Test captain following India’s defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

However, recent reports suggest that selectors have decided to stick with Sharma as the Test captain of India, extending his leadership tenure despite his recent struggles with the bat in the longer format.

The veteran opener had a forgettable Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign, scoring just 31 runs in three Tests before being dropped for the final match. However, the selectors have decided to back him, believing he remains the best candidate for the role.

Reports suggest Rohit Sharma has received a strong vote of confidence from key stakeholders, who trust his ability as Test captain.

Consequently, Sharma is likely to lead India in the upcoming five-match Test series against England, scheduled from June to August later this year.

As per the itinerary, India’s Test tour of England will begin with the series opener in Leeds from June 20-24, while the final match is set to take place at The Oval from July 31-August 5.

It is worth mentioning that India secured their third Champions Trophy title on March 9, beating New Zealand by four wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Men in Blue had previously won the prestigious tournament in 2002 and 2013.
