NEW YORK: Indian captain Rohit Sharma achieved two historic landmarks during his side’s eight-wicket victory over Ireland in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 here on Wednesday.
Sharma played a dominant 52-run knock from 37 balls before getting retired hurt while chasing a meagre 97-run target at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
He smashed four boundaries and three sixes during his innings.
The third six of his innings made him the first batter to hit 600 sixes in international cricket.
Meanwhile, West Indies legend Chris Gayle is in the second position in the list with 553 sixes. Other than Sharma and Gayle, no other batter has crossed 500 sixes landmark.

Moreover, Rohit Sharma also became the third batter to score 4000 runs in T20I cricket, after teammate Virat Kohli and Pakistan’s white-ball captain Babar Azam.
He achieved the landmark in his 144th inning, which is the slowest among the three batters.
The Indian captain also became the third batter to cross 1000 runs in T20 World Cups. Before him, Kohli and former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene achieved this feat.
Sharma is also one of two players besides Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan to feature in every T20 World Cup since the inaugural edition in 2007.
