KARACHI: Multan Sultans have defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 57 runs in the 13th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7, here at National Stadium on Saturday.
Set to chase 223, Zalmi’s batters failed to go big with the bat. The side kept losing the wickets at a constant rate and in the end, fell short by 57 runs; finishing at 165-8 in the allotted 20 overs.
For Zalmi, Hazratullah Zazai resisted a bit with his 43, while Ben Cutting provided a rather late onslaught. He remained unbeaten as the top scorer for the side with his quick 52 off 30 balls.
For the Sultans, Shahnawaz Dahani and Imran Tahir picked three wickets each, while Blessing Muzarabani and Abbas Afridi made one scalp apiece.
Batting first, Sultans set a commendable target of 223 for the Zalmi as Mohammad Rizwan and Tim David led the way with brilliant half-centuries.
Rizwan and David recorded a magnificent 69-runs partnership for the third wicket to anchor the innings. Rizwan scored an astonishing 82 off 53 balls, laced with eight boundaries and a six, while David remained unbeaten for his quickfire 51 off 19; including two boundaries and six maximums.
Khushdil Shah’s late onslaught in the final over bolstered the Sultans to amass 222-3 in 20 overs. The left-hander scored 21 off just seven deliveries.
Earlier, Shan Masood alongside Rizwan provided a magnificent start. The pair scored 85 runs for the first wicket before Shan departed after scoring 35. Later, Maqsood also chipped in with his valuable 25.
For the Zalmi, Shoaib Malik, Salman Irshad, and Usman Qadir bagged one wicket apiece.
