India beat England by four wickets, win their fifth ICC U19 WC title

NORTH SOUND: India have defeated England by four wickets in the final to win their overall fifth ICC Under-19 World Cup title, here on Monday.

Set to chase a paltry 190, Indian batters – Shaik Rasheed and Nishant Sindhu scored magnificent half-centuries to guide the side to the glory in the 48th over.

The men in blue comfortably chased 190, in the end, despite a poor start and a brief collapse at the death.

For the champions, Rasheed and Sindhu top-scored with 50 each, Rasheed faced 84 deliveries, while Sindhu faced only 54 also smashed five boundaries and a six.

Raj Bawa, on the other hand, also chipped in with his valuable 35 off 54 balls, laced with two boundaries and a six.

For England, Joshua Boyden, James Sales, and Thomas Aspinwall bagged two wickets each.

Batting first, England batting line-up failed completely and could only manage to post 189 before being bowled out.

After a horrible start for England, James Rew and Sales stood up for the team and anchored the innings with a valiant 93-runs partnership. The duo played sensibly when their side was stranded on 91/7.

Rew played a gritty 95 runs knock; falling short to his U19 World Cup century by just five runs. The left-handed batter faced 116 deliveries and smashed 12 boundaries. Sales, on the other hand, stood firm and scored an unbeaten 34 off 65 balls, laced with two boundaries.

The rest of the English batters, however, could not manage to contribute significantly for the team.

For India, Bawa and Ravi Kumar starred with the ball; taking five and four wickets respectively, while Kaushal Tambe made one scalp.
