RAWALPINDI: Weather conditions could play a crucial role during the opening ODI between Pakistan and Australia as thunderstorms are forecast in parts of the city ahead of Saturday’s series opener.
The first match of the three-game ODI series is scheduled to take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with both teams returning to 50-over action in Pakistan for the first bilateral ODI contest between the two sides in the country since 2022.
According to the latest weather forecast, conditions are expected to remain warm and humid throughout the day, with temperatures likely to touch 30°C under partly sunny skies.
However, there remains a significant possibility of thunderstorms developing during the afternoon, which could briefly interrupt play.
The RealFeel temperature is expected to hover around 30°C, while shaded areas may feel slightly cooler at around 28°C. Winds from the south are forecast at approximately 17 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching 44 km/h.
There is also a 55 per cent chance of precipitation, with around 5 mm of rainfall expected over nearly three hours. Thunderstorm activity carries a 52 per cent probability, while cloud cover is likely to remain around 50 per cent during most parts of the day.
The UV index is forecast at 7, indicating strong sun exposure whenever skies clear.
During the afternoon session, isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue under partly sunny conditions. Temperatures are likely to remain near the 30°C mark, although the weather may feel slightly cooler in shaded regions.
Winds are expected to shift west-southwest at 19 km/h, with gusts touching 43 km/h. Rainfall of around 2.5 mm is predicted later in the day, while humidity levels are expected to settle around 38 per cent.
Visibility may also reduce to nearly 8 km due to cloud cover and possible showers.
