LONDON: The final day of the fifth Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test between England and India at The Oval is expected to be impacted by rain.
England, chasing 374 for victory, need just 35 more runs with four wickets in hand with Jamie Overton (0) and Jamie Smith (2) at the crease.
India, on the other hand, require four wickets to seal the win and level the series 2-2.
However, forecasts suggest a mostly cloudy and breezy Monday in London, with a couple of showers expected in the afternoon, particularly around 2pm local time (6:30pm IST).
BBC Weather also indicates a chance of rain as early as 1pm, though the hope remains that the Test could be wrapped up before then.
The fifth match between England and India has already seen frequent weather interruptions.
Rain affected three of the four days, while bad light forced an early close on day four at around 5:30pm local time, with at least half an hour’s play still remaining, not counting the optional extended period till 6:30pm.
Rain followed shortly after the players left the field, and stumps were officially called at 6:01pm.
The five-match series kicked off on June 20 at Leeds, where England defeated India to go one up. However, India made a thumping comeback in the next game, winning by a margin of 336 runs.
The Lord’s Test saw the return of Jofra Archer in Test cricket, and he played a key role in England’s victory.
The hosts were eyeing a victory in the Old Trafford Test to take the series 3-1; however, Indian batters played brilliantly to draw the match.
