RAWALPINDI: Quetta Gladiators’ left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein on Thursday, wreaked havoc as he registered the first hat-trick of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 against Peshawar Zalmi.
The hat-trick came in the 16th over when Akeal Hosein dismissed Aamer Jamal (5), Mehran Mumtaz (0) and Luke Wood (0) on the successive deliveries.
Hosein bowled a slightly shortish delivery to Jamal wide of off-stump. The right-handed batter went for a wild slash but ended up edging it to Laurie Evans behind the stumps, who took the catch on the second attempt.
He then removed Mehran Mumtaz for a golden duck as the youngster dragged on a length delivery which nipped back after pitching just wide of off-stump.
Hosein then bowled at a probing length and a suffocating line just outside off, luring Luke Wood to poke at it and skipper Rilee Rossouw did the rest as he took a sharp catch at first slip.

Notably, Akeal Hosein is the sixth bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the history of the PSL.
His teammate Mohammad Amir was the first bowler to achieve the feat in the inaugural edition against Lahore Qalandars, followed by Junaid Khan and Imran Tahir for Multan Sultans in the 2018 edition.
Islamabad United’s Mohammad Sami picked up a hat-trick in the fourth season while the last hat-trick was registered by Multan Sultans’ Abbas Afridi in the previous edition against Quetta Gladiators.
It is worth mentioning here that Akeal Hosein’s hat-trick halted Peshawar Zalmi’s march towards a big total and reduced them to 196/8 in the allotted 20 overs despite Babar Azam’s quickfire half-century.
