LAHORE: In a dominant bowling and batting display, Quetta Gladiators thrashed Multan Sultans by 10 wickets in the 18th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 here at Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.
Quetta Gladiators successfully chased down the modest target of 90 runs without losing any wickets in just 6.5 overs.
The openers provided a flying start to Gladiators, smashing 17 runs in Willey’s third over. Fin Allen led the charge with two sixes and a four, setting the tone early in the chase. By the end of the powerplay, Gladiators had reached 74 runs without losing a wicket.
Multan Sultans’ bowlers were kept at bay as Saud Shakeel and Finn Allen shared an unbeaten stand of 90 runs, showcasing pure dominance.
Allen scored a blistering 45* off 21 deliveries, laced with five sixes and two fours, while Saud’s brisk 42* off 20 balls featured four sixes and three fours.
Earlier, Khurram Shehzad’s four-wicket haul bundled out Multan Sultans for a meagre total.
Put into bat first, Multan Sultans were folded for 89 in 17 overs, thanks to a dominant bowling display from Quetta Gladiators.
Multan Sultans’ top order failed to deliver in a crucial clash as Khurram Shahzad wreaked havoc with the new ball.
Yasir Khan was the first one to go in the second over, scoring five runs. Usman Khan followed, getting out after the fourth ball, going for a golden duck.
Kamran Ghulam was also dismissed for a mere three runs while Ireland’s Curtis Campher, making his PSL debut, was trapped LBW, leaving Quetta at 20 for four in 3.5 overs.
However, Mohammad Rizwan stood firm at the other end, managing a brief partnership with Iftikhar Ahmed, who also endured a short stay at the crease. The experienced Iftikhar was removed after scoring six.
Michael Bracewell fell to a golden duck off Faheem Ashraf’s bowling, as Sultans were reduced to 43 for six in 9.2 overs. The wickets continued to tumble as David Willey made seven while Usama Mir returned to the dugout after scoring 11 runs.
Mohammad Hasnain and Ubaid Shah failed to support their captain, Mohammad Rizwan, who remained unbeaten on 44 runs.
For Quetta Gladiators, it was an all-round bowling effort with Khurram Shahzad leading the charge, taking four for 23 in his quota of four overs, while Mohammad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf bagged two wickets each.
