MULTAN: Ahmed Daniyal’s three-wicket haul and Saim Ayub’s explosive 49 led Peshawar Zalmi to a convincing victory over Multan Sultans in the 25th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 at Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Chasing a modest 109-run total, Peshawar Zalmi comfortably knocked the winning runs on the loss of three wickets in 13 overs.
Peshawar Zalmi were off to a shaky start, losing Mitchell Owen for one in the first over. However, Babar Azam and Saim Ayub forged a 49-run stand for the second wicket, bringing the score to 57 in 6.4 overs.
Babar Azam was dismissed for 8 runs off 13 balls by an outstanding delivery from debutant Shahid Aziz.
Meanwhile, Saim Ayub returned to form with a swashbuckling 49 off 33, laced with three sixes and four elegant fours. He was dismissed when Zalmi’s scorecard showed a total of 70 runs for 3 wickets in 9 overs.
Despite losing wickets, Peshawar Zalmi scored quickly as Max Bryant and Mohammad Haris formed an unbeaten 40-run partnership, guiding their team to victory.
For Multan Sultans, Shahid Aziz claimed two wickets while David Willey picked up one wicket.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi bowled out Multan Sultans for 108 in 19.1 overs.
Opting to bat first, Multan Sultans got off to a poor start after losing their opening batters inside the powerplay. Yasir Khan was the first to go after scoring 10 off 11 deliveries.
Shortly after, Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed for 17 runs off 14 balls, with the help of three fours, leaving Sultan 34-2.
In an attempt to steady Multan Sultans’ innings, Tayyar Tahir and Shai Hope formed a brief 26-run partnership before the former was dismissed off Ahmed Daniyal for 22.
Peshawar Zalmi struck at regular intervals, never allowing the home team to recover, with Shai Hope at the receiving end. Ashton Turner fell to Maaz Sadaqat for a duck as the Sultans slumped to 61/4 in 9.3 overs.
Muhammad Amir Barki failed in his PSL 10 debut game and became Sadaqat’s second victim after scoring just three runs.
Shahid Aziz made one before his dismissal off Ali Raza, while David Willey was removed by Ahmed Daniyal on eight.
Ubaid Shah became Daniyal’s third victim in the game while Mohammad Hasnain was dismissed by Wood after he scored 11.
Faisal Akram remained unbeaten on four as Peshawar Zalmi bundled out Multan Sultans for 108 in 19.1 overs.
For Peshawar Zalmi, it was an all-round bowling effort with Ahmed Daniyal being the stand-out bowler. He picked up three wickets while Luke Wood bagged two.
