KARACHI: James Vince’s blazing century and Khushdil Shah’s fireworks powered Karachi Kings to a thrilling win against Multan Sultans in the third match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 here at National Bank Stadium.
Karachi Kings successfully chased down a challenging target of 235 runs, losing six wickets with four balls remaining. In pursuit of the mammoth total, Tim Seifert led the way by scoring 32 runs off 16 balls, which included two fours and three sixes.
After a quick-fire 32 from Tim Seifert, Multan Sultans struck back, dismissing Karachi Kings both openers Seifert and David Warner (12) in quick succession.
Building on the momentum, Multan Sultan struck again with the dismissals of Shan Masood (0) and Arafat Minhas (10) as Karachi Kings found themselves in serious trouble at 79-4 in the 7th over.
However, the match turned on it’s head when Khushdil Shah and James Vince formed a massive 142-run partnership off 68 balls, bringing them closer to victory.
James Vince scored a remarkable century, finishing with 101 off 43 balls. The right-handed batter hit four sixes and 14 fours. Khushdil Shah also contributed significantly, scoring 60 runs off 37 balls, with four sixes and five fours.
With only five required in the last over, Karachi Kings completed the target in style on the second ball of the final over. Abbas Afridi finished the match, hitting a stunning six straight down the ground.
Earlier, after being put in to bat first, the visitors scored 234 runs for 3 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to Rizwan’s blazing century.
The innings started well for the visitors, with the opening pair contributing a brisk 55 runs in just five overs.
Rizwan was the main aggressor during the opening stand, while Shai Hope, who scored eight runs, focused on rotating the strike until he fell to Hasan Ali on the first ball of the sixth over.
Rizwan then formed a brief partnership of 27 runs for the second wicket with Usman Khan, who scored 19 runs off 15 balls.
After that, Rizwan teamed up with Kamran Ghulam, strengthening the Sultans’ position with a partnership of 63 runs for the third wicket, which spanned six overs.
Ghulam was dismissed by Abbas Afridi in the 15th over after scoring a rapid 36 runs off just 19 deliveries, which included five fours and one six.
The captain then found reliable support in Michael Bracewell, and together they added an impressive 89-run partnership in just 32 balls.
Rizwan finished as the top scorer with an unbeaten 105 runs off 63 deliveries, featuring nine fours and five sixes.
Bracewell also played a crucial role, scoring 44 not out off 17 balls, which included five fours and three sixes.
For the Kings, only Hasan Ali, Abbas Afridi, and Khushdil Shah managed to take one wicket each.
