Players offered desk jobs as Port Qasim shuts down sports department

KARACHI: The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has shut down its sports department, and also directed the affiliated players to report to the Human Resource Management (HRM) department to perform ‘desk jobs’.

According to the details, PQA chose to close down their sports department after no departmental sports events took place in the previous three years.

In an official letter, released by the PQA, players of both cricket and hockey are directed to report to the HRM department, and they will then be able to perform a desk job, based on their academic qualifications.

“Henceforth, the operations of [the] PQA sports section are discontinued/call-off with immediate effect and the players (Hockey and Cricket) are directed to report HRM department for performance of desk job, based on their educational qualification,” the statement read.

“Later on, they will be considered for adjustment against the sanctioned/approved billet of PQA, as per their qualification,” the statement further read.

It is pertinent to mention here that some of the most prominent former Test cricketers and current first-class cricketers are affiliated with the PQA which includes Khurram Manzoor, Tanvir Ahmed, Umar Amin, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Sami, Shahzaib Hassan, and others.
