DARWIN: Baxter Holt’s sublime century, backed by a clinical bowling effort, powered the Perth Scorchers Academy to the Top End T20 Series trophy as they edged out Adelaide Strikers Academy by 15 runs here at Marrara Cricket Ground No. 2 on Sunday.
Chasing a daunting 206-run target, Strikers crumbled under pressure and could only manage to score 190-6 in 20 overs.
After losing their opener, Jake Winter (1) in only the second over, Mackenzie Harvey and Harry Manenti paired up for a stand to keep their team in the hunt.
Both batters played aggressively, powering Adelaide Strikers to 104 in just 9.5 overs.
However, Manenti fell after making 60 from 31 balls, striking four sixes and six fours. Despite the wicket, Scorchers could not stem the flow of runs as Harvey continued to charge.
Perth Scorchers turned the match on its head with a double-wicket 18th over.
Harry Nielsen’s sluggish innings ended as he couldn’t get going and perished after scoring 28 from 27 balls, whereas Ryan King was also dimissed on the third ball of the over.
At the end of this over, Adelaide Strikers were reduced to 172-4.
With the next two over only leaking 18 runs, Adelaide Strikers fell short and could not get over the line. Mackenzie Harvey remained unbeaten with a valiant 83 from 52 balls, laced with four sixes and eight boundaries.
For Perth Scorchers, Matthew Spoors and Keaton Critchell remained the standout bowlers, picking up two wickets each.
Earlier, after being put into bat, Perth Scorchers forged a formidable total, thanks to a sublime hundred from Baxter Holt.
Baxter Holt crunched 12 fours and four maximums in his unbeaten 114 from just 63 balls.
Captain Teague Wyllie was equally good as well with his 56 from 44 balls with the aid of four boundaries.
