Waseem to face reigning champion Martinez for WBC flyweight title

KARACHI: Pakistani boxing sensation Muhammad Waseem has geared up for one of the biggest fights of his career as he challenged reigning WBC champion, Julio Cesar Martinez, for the World flyweight title.

The WBC title bout between Waseem, nicknamed ‘Falcon’, and Mexico’s Martinez will take place in December

Before the high-octane fight, Waseem will undergo rigorous training in the UK and US to strengthen his moves.

The event at which Waseem will be locking horns with Martinez is anticipated to be a crowd puller as star Mexican boxer Canelo Álvarez will also roll into action in a fight.

The venue and the date of the high-voltage fight will be decided in the course.

Wasim scaled to the top of the WBA rankings boxer last year in the fly-weight category. He is also the only Pakistani who was crowned world boxing champion twice.
