Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel lead Pakistan’s recovery after early wickets

MULTAN: Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan scored unbeaten half-centuries to help Pakistan end the opening day on top after being reduced to 46-4 in the first Test against West Indies here on Friday.

Shakeel was playing on 56 and Rizwan was on 51 with the scoreboard reading 143-4 when bad light forced an early Stumps on Day 1.

The series opener faced a delay in the coin toss because a thick blanket of fog had enveloped the city, creating poor visibility. The toss was eventually conducted after lunch under a bright sun.

Pakistan chose to bat first after winning the toss, however, the decision backfired initially as West Indies bowlers took four quick wickets with only 46 runs on the board.

Debutant Mohammad Huraira (6) was the first wicket to fall, followed by skipper Shan Masood (11), who fell prey to Gudakesh Motie.
