England strike early against Pakistan after posting 290

LONDON: England made a bright start on the second day of the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Pakistan were reduced to 16-2 at lunch. Azan Awais survived a testing phase as England continued to check Pakistan’s progress with the new ball.

Jofra Archer drew first blood after removing Shan Masood, who managed only one after facing 11 deliveries.

Abdullah Shafique was the second to be dismissed off Joshe Tongue’s bowling at the stroke of lunch. He was caught behind for five.

Earlier, Pakistan bowled out England for 290 as the last pair of Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue added 47.

Gus Atkinson hit six fours in his 45 off 46 balls, while Josh Tongue ably supported him after scoring 30 off 48 with the aid of four boundaries.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas proved his mettled and scalped four wickets while Mohammad Ali also took three.
