Pakistan U19 dominate Day Two as Sri Lanka U19 lose six in first-innings

Pakistan U19 commanded proceedings on Day Two to acquire a strong position in the four-day game against Sri Lanka U19 at National Bank Stadium, Karachi.

Sri Lanka U19 were reeling at 155-6 at stumps, trailing behind Pakistan U19’s first-innings total of 433-9 declared.

Pakistan U19 resumed their innings from 319 for one in 90 overs on the second day. The hosts added 114 more runs, while losing eight wickets in the day.

Captain Saad Baig declared the innings after taking their total to 433, which was scored in 121.3 overs.

Shahzaib Khan was the top scorer for Pakistan with 161 runs from 276 balls; his innings included 12 boundaries and one six.

He was complemented by his opening partner Azan Awais, who scored 104 runs from 221 balls, including seven boundaries. Saad also played a solid innings, making 68 runs from 70 balls with the help of six boundaries and one six.

Malsha Tharupathi returned with three wickets. Vihas Thewmika and Ruvishan Perera got two wickets each.

In turn, the visitors posted 155 runs in 56 overs, while losing six wickets in the process. Pullindu Perera was the standout batter, producing an undefeated half-century (53 not out, 71b, 8x4s).

Skipper Sineth Jayawardene was the other contributor with the bat, scoring 38 runs in 45 balls, and hitting seven boundaries. Aimal Khan returned with two scalps and was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts.

Sri Lanka U19 trail by 278 runs, ahead of the third day of the solitary four-day game against Pakistan.
