LAHORE: Sadia Iqbal’s three-wicket haul, followed by half-centuries from Muneeba Ali and Natalia Parvaiz, led Pakistan to a convincing five-wicket victory over the West Indies in their second warm-up match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup here on Monday.
Pakistan comfortably chased down the meagre total of 189, losing five wickets with 23 balls to spare.
Vice-captain Muneeba Ali and Natalia Parvaiz steered Pakistan’s chase, both scoring half-centuries.
Muneeba top-scored with a brisk 87 runs off 113 balls, while Natalia contributed with a solid 53-run knock off 60 deliveries.
Middle-order batter Gull Feroza also played a crucial role, adding a vital 28 runs.
Earlier, after opting to bat, West Indies could only manage to score 188-8 in their allocated 50 overs.
Shabika Gujanbi was the top scorer for the West Indies with an unbeaten 68, while Jannillea Glasgow chipped in with 41 runs.
For Pakistan, Sadia Iqbal was the stand-out bowler, claiming impressive figures of 3-21. Nashra Sandhu bagged two wickets, while Fatima Sana, Diana Baig, and Rameen Shamim each picked up one wicket.
This was Pakistan’s second victory in the World Cup Qualifier warm-up. The Green Shirts had earlier defeated Thailand by seven wickets with 187 balls to spare.
It is pertinent to mention that the sixth edition of the Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier will kick off on 9 April in Lahore, featuring four full members – Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, and Ireland – and associate members Scotland and Thailand.
