DUBAI: The ICC has unveiled its annual team rankings update, and there’s plenty of movement across formats, with England rising in Tests, Sri Lanka making a statement across the board, and Pakistan unfortunately slipping yet again.
Australia, the current World Test Championship (WTC) holders, continue to sit comfortably at the top of the Test rankings with a rating of 126.
However, their cushion has slightly reduced, from 15 points to 13, after the annual update, which now gives full weightage to matches played since May 2024 and half value to those from the two years prior.
Meanwhile, Ben Stokes-led England had an impressive year, winning three out of four series and storming into second place with 113 points.
Consequently, South Africa (111) and India (105) have both been pushed down a spot, now sitting third and fourth, respectively.
The rest of the top 10 in the ICC Test Rankings stay unchanged: New Zealand (5), Sri Lanka (6), Pakistan (7), West Indies (8), Bangladesh (9), and Zimbabwe (10).
On the other hand, India have cemented their dominance in the ICC ODI Rankings following their triumphant run in the Champions Trophy 2025.
Their rating jumped from 122 to 124, keeping them at the top. New Zealand, after finishing runners-up in the tournament, moved into second place, overtaking Australia (now third).
Sri Lanka are the biggest gainers here, thanks to impressive series wins against both India and Australia.
They’ve jumped into fourth place, leapfrogging Pakistan (now fifth despite gaining a point) and South Africa (sixth), who lost four points in the update.
Afghanistan also had a decent jump, moving to seventh, while England continue to slide down to eighth. West Indies now sit ninth, and Bangladesh round off the top 10.
Meanwhile, in the shortest format, not much has changed at the very top, India are still the No. 1 T20I side, but their lead over Australia has narrowed slightly to nine points.
England stay third, followed by New Zealand (4), West Indies (5), and South Africa (6). But it’s Sri Lanka again making headlines, they’re now up to seventh, pushing Pakistan down to eighth in the T20I rankings.
Bangladesh and Afghanistan complete the top 10, while Ireland and Zimbabwe have swapped places at 11th and 12th, respectively.
