Pakistan slip in latest ICC Men's Test rankings

DUBAI: Pakistan dropped in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Test rankings following the conclusion of the two-match Test series between Bangladesh and Australia.

Bangladesh jumped three places to sixth, achieving an all-time high in Test rankings with 1,222 rating points. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka and Pakistan slipped to seventh and eighth place, respectively.

Despite a series draw against Bangladesh, Australia continued to hold the top spot, while South Africa and New Zealand remained in second and fourth place. India are on fourth place ahead of England.

The update comes after Bangladesh secured a historic win over Australia in the series opener at Marrara Stadium in Darwin last week

The Tigers, touring Australia for only the second time, clinched a commanding win, courtesy of Hasan Mahmud’s devastating bowling, which saw the hosts skittle for 198 on day one of the Test match.

Hasan Mahmud registered figures of 6-55 in 17 overs.

After an emphatic bowling display, Bangladesh demonstrated grit with the bat, piling up 426 and taking a big lead of 228.

Tanzid Hasan scored his maiden century and became the first player from Bangladesh to do so down under. The left-hander scored 101 from 197 balls, hitting eight fours and a six.

In the second innings as well, Australia were shambolic with the bat and were bowled out for 284. Cameron Green emerged as the highest scorer with 104 off 201 balls.

All-rounder Mehidy Hasan spun a web around the Australian batter and claimed a sensational five-wicket haul.

Bangladesh chased the 57-run target without any obstacle in 14.2 overs, losing only one wicket in the process.

After a painful defeat in the first Test, Australia made a strong comeback in the second fixture to draw the series 1-1, after winning by an innings and 51 runs.

The pace attack led by Mitchell Starc bowled out Bangladesh for only 64 in their first innings. Starc took a fiery five-wicket haul.

In reply, Australia were able to post 210 with the help of Cameron Green’s gritty knock. He top-scored with 67, helping his side take a decisive lead of 146 runs.

For Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam registered career-best figures of 7-48 in 15 overs.

Bangladesh were unable to produce a good batting display as they were folded for 95 in 38.3 overs.

Mitchell Starc starred again with the ball, claiming four wickets to complete a 10-wicket haul in the match.
