DUBAI: Pakistan players made significant gains in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I rankings ahead of the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Pakistan are currently playing a four-match T20I series against defending T20 World champions England, during which their players’ performances resulted in gaining valuable rating points.
Fakhar Zaman played a 45-run knock from 21 balls during the second T20I of the series, which helped him jump six places up to reach 51st in the ICC T20I batting rankings.
Meanwhile, Shaheen Afridi, who returned with figures of 3-36 in the second T20I, rose up three spots to equal 11th with Australia’s Adam Zampa.
Haris Rauf also gained two places to 25th after picking two wickets in the above-mentioned game. Notably, this was his comeback game after missing out New Zealand and Ireland series due to a shoulder injury.
Star all-rounder Imad Wasim also took two wickets, which propelled him to jump 14 places to reach 38th in the bowling rankings.
Wasim followed his bowling performance with a 13-ball 22, gaining four places to joint-12th with teammate Shadab Khan.

England’s captain Jos Buttler won the Man of the Match award for his brilliant innings of 84 of 51 against Pakistan, which helped him jump one place to seventh in the T20I batting rankings.
Meanwhile, his teammate Reece Topley reached the ninth spot after gaining one place in the bowling rankings, courtesy of his figures of 3-41.
West Indies recently whitewashed South Africa 3-0, which resulted in their players also making substantial gains in the rankings.
Stand-in captain Brandon King made an impressive climb of five spots to secure the eighth position in the T20I batting rankings.
Johnson Charles also saw a significant rise, moving up 17 places to claim the 20th spot, while Kyle Mayers jumped 12 spots to secure the 31st position.
Gudakesh Motie secured eight wickets against South Africa, earning him the prestigious Player of the Series award. Consequently, he experienced a remarkable ascent in the T20I bowlers’ rankings, progressing from outside the top 100 to 27th spot.
