Pakistan crush Kuwait to win Hong Kong Sixes 2025 title

MONG KOK: Dominant Pakistan outplayed Kuwait by 44 runs to secure the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 title here at Mission Road Ground on Sunday.

Opting to bat first, Pakistan racked up a mammoth 135 for 3 in their allotted six overs.

Captain Abbas Afridi spearheaded the team’s efforts with an outstanding performance, scoring 52 runs off a mere 11 balls and launching seven colossal sixes before leaving the field due to injury.

Abdul Samad also made a significant impact with 42 runs from 13 balls, while Khawaja Nafay chipped in with a brisk 22 runs off just six deliveries, as Pakistan’s top order dominated the Kuwaiti bowling lineup.

Though Meet Bhavsar delivered an impressive three-wicket haul, the Kuwaiti bowlers found it challenging to keep pace with Pakistan’s explosive batting, which recorded an exceptional run rate of 22.5 runs per over.

Kuwait fought valiantly in response but could only score 92 runs in five overs. Bhavsar finished the innings not out with 33 runs, and Adnan Idrees added a quick 30 runs.

For Pakistan, Maaz Sadaqat stood out with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 29 runs, while Abbas Afridi and Muhammad Shahzad each claimed one wicket.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan triumphed over Australia in a nail-biting semi-final, winning by only a single run.

Khawaja Nafay was instrumental in this victory, scoring an impressive 50 runs off just 14 balls, helping Pakistan post a total of 121 for 2.

Pakistan ended on the winning side, courtesy of their tight bowling in the last overs, which secured the win and advanced them to the final.
