ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Volleyball team continued their dominance over Australia and swept the three-match series, held at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex here.
In the third and final match of the home series, Pakistan outclassed Australia with scores of 26-24, 25-20, and 25-20.
The home side started the match on a high as they secured the first set with a score of 25-22.
Pakistan banked on their momentum and denied Australia a chance to clinch their first set in the ongoing series, emerging victorious in the remaining two sets to complete a dominant victory over the touring side.
Pakistan had already secured the series when they thumped Australia in the second match by 26-24, 25-19 and 25-23.
The home side also clinched a straight-set victory in the series opener, beating Australia with a scoreline of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20.
Notably, Australia are ranked 35th in the world, 13 places ahead of Pakistan, ranked 49th.
Australia’s volleyball squad reached here on Sunday to embark on their first-ever tour to Pakistan for an international series.
The series was organised by the Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) at the request of the Australian Volleyball Federation.
The visiting team received a warm welcome on their arrival at Islamabad International Airport from the officials of the PVF.
“All matches will be starting from 6:30 PM and entry of the fans and supporters are free”, Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, Chairman of the Pakistan Volleyball Federation announced.
“It will be a cracker of a series as Pakistan has recently won the Central Asian title while Australia is ranked much higher. Both teams are preparing for the Challenge Cup to be held in Bahrain next month,” he added.
