Pakistan outplay Scotland in ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

LAHORE: Fatima Sana’s four-wicket haul and half-centuries from Muneeba Ali and Aliya Riaz propelled Pakistan over Scotland by six wickets in a rain-hit encounter in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Qualifiers.

Chasing a meagre total of 187 in a match reduced to 32 overs per side, Pakistan scored the winning runs in the second last over, losing four wickets.

Muneeba Ali remained the top scorer for Pakistan with her 71 off 72 balls, featuring nine fours and one six.

In pursuit of the target, Pakistan were reduced to 36-2 in 7.2 overs, as opening batter Gull Feroza (2)  departed and Sidra Amin (7) departed early.

Following the early dismissals, Muneeba Ali and Aliya Riaz steadied the innings for Pakistan, forging a 93-run partnership, much to the frustration of Scotland bowlers.

The partnership was broken with the dismissal of Muneeba, who scored a gutsy half-century. However, Aliya Riaz remained unbeaten and steered Pakistan to victory with eight balls to spare.

Riaz scored 68* off 70 deliveries, laced with seven fours and one six.

For Scotland, Chloe Abel was the only silver lining, taking two wickets in her six overs.

Earlier, after being invited to bat, Scotland scored 186 for the loss of nine wickets in their allocated overs.

Scotland’s skipper, Kathryn Bryce, remained the highest scorer, scoring 91 off 96 balls, featuring 10 fours and one six.

She was eventually dismissed by Fatima Sana in the 27th over.

The skipper, Fatima Sana, was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, taking four for 23 in her five overs. Sadia Iqbal supported her well with two wickets.

Pakistan Aliya Riaz was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his unbeaten knock.
