DAMBULLA: Pakistan have won the toss and opted to bat first against arch-rivals India in the second match of the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2024 here at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Friday.
Pakistan: Nida Dar (c), Aliya Riaz, Fatima Sana, Gull Feroza, Iram Javed, Muneeba Ali (wk), Nashra Sandhu, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin, Syeda Aroob Shah, Tuba Hassan.
India: Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Dayalan Hemalatha, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wk), Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil, Renuka Singh.
Speaking after winning the coin toss, Pakistan captain Dar termed the wicket dry and ideal to bat on. She further added that their win over India in the last meeting would give them confidence.
“It looks a pretty dry wicket,” said Dar. “It’s a great opportunity ahead of the World Cup. We have confidence from our win last time.”
On the other hand, India’s skipper Kaur was unfazed by the outcome of the toss and reiterated that the conditions would remain the same in both innings.
“For us, anything was okay because the conditions will be same for both innings,” said Kaur.
Now we have a chance to restrict them to a small total. We want to get into the rhythm from the first game. We have three changes from our last T20I. Renuka is back for Arundhati, Hemalatha returns as well… and one more,” she added.
India and Pakistan have faced each other 14 times in Women’s T20 Internationals with the formers having a superior record.
Matches 14, India 11, Pakistan 3
Pakistan enter the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 with an unwanted record as they recently suffered a three-match series whitewash against England.
India, on the other hand, lost only one out of their last Women’s T20I fixtures while one was called off due to adamant rain.
