ABU DHABI: Deccan Gladiators’ batter – Odean Smith played a blistering knock to help his side defeat Northern Warriors by 19 runs and registered their sixth win in Abu Dhabi T10 League here on Sunday.
After being given the opportunity to bat first in the tournament’s 23rd match, Gladiators openers Tom Banton and Tom Kohler-Cadmore failed to make an impact early on, with Kohler-Cadmore (13 off 5 deliveries) getting removed by Imran Tahir with only 16 runs on the board. Banton, too, was unable to make an impact and was undone by Josh Little on 13 (11).
The side was unfazed by the fact that they had lost both openers cheaply, as Tom Moore batted sensibly for 39 runs off just 19 deliveries. He hit two sixes and four boundaries to stay his team’s highest scorer. Smith, on the other hand, was on another level, scoring 32 off only 11 deliveries, including two sixes and four boundaries. Gladiators concluded with a respectable score of 134/5 in their respective 10 overs thanks to Smith’s big knock.
Oshane Thomas proved to be the stand-out bowler for the Warriors as he bagged three wickets for just 19 runs. Tahir and Little bagged a wicket each.
Warriors’ batters were a touch too slow in reply, with none of their batters were able to go hard at the bowlers, and they were only able to score 115/4 in 10 overs and lost the match by 19 runs.
Wahab was named player of the match for his economical bowling performance, as the bowler has now bowled the most number of dot balls in the tournament.
Gladiators, along with Team Abu Dhabi, have qualified for the qualifications after achieving the top spot on the points table with this victory. Warriors, on the other hand, are in fifth place.
