Nooh Butt sets record to win first Gold for Pakistan in CWG 2022

BIRMINGHAM: National weightlifter Nooh Butt created history as he set the new Commonwealth Games record in weightlifting and secured the first gold for Pakistan in the ongoing global event.

In the final round of the 109+kg Men’s category, national weightlifter Nooh produced an astounding outcome as he lifted a record total of 405 kg to capture the first gold for Pakistan in the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

The 24-year-old weightlifter lifted 170kg and 173kg respectively in the first and second attempt in snatch but remained unable to pull off 174kg in the third.

The national weightlifter, however, then stunned his opponents as he lifted a record 232 kg in the second attempt of clean and jerk and bettered his first attempt (225kg).

Following Nooh securing gold, Pakistan’s overall medal tally has risen to two as the judo player Shah Hussain Shah claimed a bronze medal by defeating South African opponent Thomas-Laszlo Breytenbach.
