KARACHI: Pakistan have slipped to the fifth position in the updated ICC Cricket World Cup Super League points table following New Zealand’s white-wash series victory over Ireland.
New Zealand edged past Ireland by a mere one-run margin in the third ODI against Ireland and completed the clean sweep over the home side.
The three-match series featured two close contests, however, New Zealand, held their nerves calm to deny the upset as many times.
Following the dominant series victory, the Black Caps managed to maintain their perfect run in the ICC World Cup Super League with a hundred percent winning record in nine matches.
Pakistan, on the other hand, slipped to the fifth position despite also winning nine matches as they have lost six matches and as a result have a lower winning percentage than the Kiwis.
England continued their lead over the points table with 12 victories, followed by Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Whereas, India, Australia, and Sri Lanka are placed at the bottom, holding seventh, eighth, and tenth positions respectively.
It is pertinent to mention here that South Africa, who are not even in the top 10 of the points table, have recently preferred their new T20 league over direct world cup qualification as their decision of pulling out of the three-match series against Australia has dented the chances of direct qualification.
