SAN JOSE: Netherlands secured their first win in FIFA U20 women’s World Cup as they outclassed the United States by 3-0 in their second group match, here on Sunday.
Sanne Koopman led the charge for her team as she scored the opening goal in the 32nd minute with Dana Foederer and Marit Auee struck in the second half to completely dominate the opponents.
The US went for an energetic start as captain Talia DellaPeruta nearly missed a goal after a brilliant save from the Dutch goalkeeper with just three minutes into the game.
The Netherlands however had their first when Koopman looped the Auee’s header into the nets over US goalkeeper Neeku Purcell.
The Dutch doubled the lead in the 55th minute after midfielder Foederer blasted from 30 yards out that flew over Purcell and into the top left corner. The lead further strengthened in the 62nd minute after the Netherlands earned a penalty and Auee scored from the spot to make it 3-0.
Meanwhile, France cruised past Canada 3-1 in a group C match held later at the venue on Sunday.
Magnaba Folquet scored twice in the second half before Mbakem-Niaro netted the ball in the 88th minute to give France a 3-0 lead in the game.
