Namibia secure their place at ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Namibia secured their place at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled to take place in the United States of America and West Indies in June next year.

Namibia registered their fifth consecutive victory in the ICC T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifiers as they defeated Tanzania by 58 runs.

Namibia after being invited to bat first, posted 157 runs at the loss of six wickets, courtesy of a swashbuckling 25-ball 42, featuring one boundary and four sixes.

Tanzania’s Yalinde Nkanya and Akhil Anil picked two wickets each.

While chasing Tanzania, slipped to 17 for 2 in the fourth over and continued to lose wickets at an alarming rate at one end, while Amal Rajeevan held on to the other end.

Rajeevan remained unbeaten with a cautious knock of 41 off 45 balls, as his team could only manage to score 99 for 6 in 20 overs.

Gerhard Erasmus returned with figures of 2-17 for Namibia.

This victory solidified their position at the top of the seven-team points table in the ICC T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifiers with ten points from five games.

They are followed by Uganda and Kenya at second and third position respectively after playing four games each.

Meanwhile, the only Test-playing nation among seven teams Zimbabwe is sitting at fourth position with two wins from four games.
