Namibia’s Loftie-Eaton smashes fastest T20I hundred

KIRTIPUR: Namibia’s all-rounder Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton broke the record for the fastest T20I hundred by hammering a 33-ball ton against Nepal.

In the opening game of a tri-series also featuring the Netherlands, Loftie-Eaton came down to bat at 62-3 in the 11th over and smashed 19 boundaries, including eight sixes before being dismissed for 101 from 36 deliveries.

The previous record was held by Nepal’s Kushal Malla, who reached a T20I hundred from 34 balls against Mongolia during last year’s Asian Games.

For the unversed, Nepal broke a plethora of T20I records during that match against Mongolia, including the highest-ever total in a men’s T20I (314-3).

Loftie-Eaton and Malla’s fastest tons are followed by South Africa’s David Miller and India’s Rohit Sharma, who scored 35-ball centuries.

Meanwhile, Loftie-Eaton also made a new record for the most runs scored in boundaries in T20I cricket as he accumulated 92 runs in boundaries.

Courtesy of Loftie-Eaton’s onslaught, Namibia posted 206-4 in their allocated 20 overs. Loftie-Eaton also took two wickets to help his side book Nepal for 186, winning the game by 20 runs.

The three teams competing in the tri-series have all qualified for the T20 World Cup to be held in June in the Caribbean and United States.
