Mushfiqur Rahim announces retirement from T20I cricket

DHAKA: Former Bangladesh skipper and wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim on Sunday called time on his T20I career as he wants to focus on ODI and Test cricket.

Taking to Twitter, Mushfiqur announced his retirement from the shortest format, saying he wanted to focus more on the other two formats of the game. He also stated that he will be available to play in franchise leagues.

“I would like to announce my retirement from T20 INTERNATIONALS and focus on Test and ODI formats of the game. I will be available to play franchise leagues when the opportunity arrives. Looking forward to proudly represent my nation in the two formats,” said Mushfiqur Rahim in his post.” he wrote on Twitter.

Mushfiqur was part of the Bangladesh side which was eliminated from the ongoing T20 Asia Cup 2022 after losing both of its group matches against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, respectively.

The Bangladesh stalwart remained unimpressive in the Asia Cup as he returned scores of 1 and 4 and also dropped a crucial catch in Bangladesh’s must-win encounter against Sri Lanka.

The 35-year-old has represented Bangladesh in every T20 World Cup since the inaugural edition, however, he will not be part of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, following the decision.

Mushfiqur leaves the format after appearing in 102 matches and scoring 1500 runs, including six fifties.
