Bangladesh wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim has announced his retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket following his team’s winless performance in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The 37-year-old, who is the most experienced ODI batter for Bangladesh, shared this news on social media.
Mushfiqur Rahim represented Bangladesh in 274 ODIs since making his debut against Zimbabwe in 2006.
The right-hander finished as Bangladesh’s second-highest ODI run-getter, amassing 7795 runs at an average of 36.42, with nine centuries and 49 half-centuries.
He is also one of only five wicketkeepers to have played more than 250 ODIs. His seven centuries as a wicketkeeper rank fourth-most in history, surpassed only by Kumar Sangakkara, Adam Gilchrist, and MS Dhoni.
In a heartfelt message on his official Facebook page, Mushfiqur Rahim announced his retirement and expressed gratitude for everything he experienced throughout his career.
“I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format as of today,” said Mushfiqur.
“Alhamdulillah for everything. While our achievements may have been limited on a global level, one thing is certain: whenever I stepped onto the field for my country, I gave more than 100% with dedication and honesty.”
He acknowledged the challenges he faced in recent weeks and indicated that he has come to accept this decision as part of his destiny.
Mushfiqur also thanked his family, friends, and fans for their unwavering support over his 19-year career.
“The last few weeks have been very challenging for me, and I have come to realize that this is my destiny.”
“Lastly, I would like to deeply thank my family, friends and my fans for whom I have played cricket for the last 19 years,” he concluded.
It’s worth mentioning that he has already stepped away from T20 Internationals, yet he is currently at 94 Tests and is on track to be the first Bangladeshi to achieve the milestone of 100 Tests.
