LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, on Saturday, reiterated that the national team will not travel to India for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, scheduled to be held later this year.
Naqvi was speaking during his visit to the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground, where the Pakistan women’s team concluded a dominant ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier campaign with their fifth consecutive win, defeating Bangladesh by seven wickets.
Congratulating the team on an unbeaten run in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier, Naqvi made it clear that Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming global tournament will follow the “Fusion Formula,” the same framework agreed upon ahead of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
“Pakistan will not travel to India as this formula has already been agreed upon,” Naqvi told reporters, reiterating the board’s stance regarding matches against India at ICC events.
When asked about the possibility of a neutral venue for Pakistan’s matches during the Women’s World Cup, Mohsin Naqvi clarified that the decision rests with the host nation but reaffirmed that travelling to India is not an option for the women in green.
It is worth noting that the International Cricket Council (ICC) had already confirmed this arrangement via a press release issued on 19 December 2024, announcing that India and Pakistan matches at ICC events during the 2024–2027 rights cycle will be held at neutral venues.
“India and Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the 2024-2027 rights cycle will be played at a neutral venue,” the statement read.
For the unversed, Pakistan women’s team sealed their place in the 2025 World Cup with a comprehensive 87-run win over Thailand earlier this week, before wrapping up the qualifiers unbeaten by comfortably chasing down a 179-run target against Bangladesh.
Mohsin Naqvi also praised Fatima Sana and her side for their unity and collective effort throughout the tournament.
“When a team is gelled in and plays like a unit, it produces such results. They will definitely be rewarded. They deserve it,” he said.
