The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has extended his heartiest congratulations to the national men’s cricket team for their victory in the T20I series against the West Indies on Monday.
Pakistan capped off their T20I series against West Indies on a high, clinching the decider in Lauderhill with a 13-run win to seal the series 2-1.
The Salman Ali Agha-led side put in a disciplined all-round display in the third match at Central Broward Regional Park, defending a competitive total of 189.
Pakistan opted to bat first and were off to a flier courtesy of openers Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan. The left-right pair stitched a 138-run opening stand, with both registering fifties in the process.
Farhan top-scored with a stroke-filled 74 off 53 balls, hitting three fours and five sixes, while Ayub made a classy 66 off 49.
Cameos from Hassan Nawaz (15 off 7), Khushdil Shah (11* off 6), and Faheem Ashraf (10* off 3) helped Pakistan finish strong at 189 for 4.
In reply, West Indies came out swinging, smashing 16 runs off the first over from Hasan Ali. Openers Jewel Andrew and Alick Athanaze laid a strong foundation, adding 44 for the first wicket, before Haris Rauf struck to remove Andrew.
Athanaze looked in imperious touch, notching up his maiden T20I half-century off 31 balls and steering the chase with support from Shai Hope (7) and Sherfane Rutherford (51 off 35).
At 110 for 2 in the 13th over, West Indies appeared to be cruising, but Pakistan clawed back just in time.
Ayub turned the game by removing Athanaze for 60, before spinner Sufiyan Muqeem and pacer Haris Rauf applied the brakes.
Rutherford’s late assault kept the contest alive, but once he was dismissed in the penultimate over, the home side ran out of steam, ending at 176 for 6.
Mohsin Naqvi took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account after the win to praise the team’s performance.
“Congratulations Team Pakistan on a fantastic T20 series win against West Indies in the USA,” Naqvi posted.
“Great teamwork, determination, and spirit on display. Proud of our boys for making the nation proud on international soil. Keep the momentum going.”
