Mohammed Siraj reports corrupt approach to BCCI

India’s right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj on Wednesday, notified the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) regarding a “corrupt approach” made towards him amid his side’s home ODI series against Australia in March.

According to the details, Siraj, who is currently representing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), was approached by an individual seeking inside information after losing a whopping amount of money.

Upon receiving the call, the lanky pacer immediately informed the BCCI officials regarding the matter, reported ESPNcricinfo on Wednesday.

The BCCI shared its verdict regarding the incident and asserted that the individual, who approached Siraj was not a bookie but a driver from the pacer’s hometown Hyderabad, who was fond of betting.

“It wasn’t a bookie who approached Siraj. It is a driver from Hyderabad who is addicted to betting on matches. He had lost huge money and approached Siraj for inside information,” a senior BCCI source told PTI.

The suspected driver has been taken into custody by law enforcement agencies and is being investigated.

Making his debut for India in 2017, Siraj has thus far represented his national team in 18 Test matches, 24 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and eight T20Is. He has thus far claimed 101 wickets.
