Mohammad Yousaf picks Pakistan's greats after 1000th ODI

Former cricketer Mohammad Yousaf has picked his greatest cricketers of Pakistan following the landmark 1000th ODI against Australia.

Yousuf shared the names on the social media platform X and also paid tribute to Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup triumph.

“Pakistan’s historic #1000th ODI win sparks greatest players,” Yousuf wrote.

The right-hander named 1992 World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan as the greatest leader and all-rounder, followed by Wasim Akram, whom he described as the greatest fast bowler.

He picked Saeed Anwar as the greatest batter alongside wicket-keeper Rashid Latif and spinner Saqlain Mushtaq. He also highlighted the 1992 World Cup final as the most memorable moment in Pakistan cricket history.

For the unversed, Pakistan made their 1000th ODI memorable with a thumping win over Australia on Saturday at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The milestone made Pakistan only the third team in men’s ODI cricket to feature in 1000 matches, joining Australia and India in the exclusive club.

Arafat Minhas starred with a record-breaking five-wicket haul on debut, bundling out the visitors for a mere 202 in 42.3 overs.

With the performance, Minhas registered the best bowling figures by a Pakistani on ODI debut, surpassing a 41-year-old record previously held by former pacer Zakir Khan, who had taken 4-19 against New Zealand in 1984.

Chasing a modest target of 201, Pakistan reached 202-5 in 42.3 overs, thanks largely to a match-defining 127-run partnership between Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Ghazi Ghori.

Babar Azam top-scored with 69 off 94 balls, striking four boundaries and one six. Meanwhile, Ghazi Ghouri impressed with 65 off 92 deliveries, including eight fours.

With the win, Pakistan took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, with the second match scheduled to be played in Lahore on June 2.
