HARARE: Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez on Friday, scripted history as he returned the best bowling figures 4/6 in the shortest format in the first match of the Zim Afro T10 League.

Mohammad Hafeez, who is representing Joburg Buffaloes in the inaugural Zim Afro T10 League, made headlines in his first match with his astounding bowling performance.

The right-arm spinner took six wickets and conceded just four runs in his quota of two overs.

Hafeez had a flying start to his spell as he dismissed in-form Sikandar Raza (1) on his first delivery. He then removed Thisara Perera and Timycen Maruma — both for ducks — in the same over to complete a triple-wicket maiden.

Buffaloes’ captain Hafeez then returned to bowl his second when the Braves were 64-6 in seven overs while chasing 106.

Hard-hitting batter Ryan Burl looked to counterattack Mohammad Hafeez by smashing him for a boundary first up but the spinner, fancying his superior record against the left-handed batters, dismissed him caught for 14.

He then struck twice again in his second over removing Tymal Mills and Tanunurwa Makoni — both for ducks — to leave the Braves reeling 68/9 in the eighth over.

After Mohammad Hafeez’s six-for, it appeared all over for the Braves before Beau Webster glimmered a ray of hope for his side with a sensational quickfire knock at the backend.

He struck 39 off 22 deliveries, laced up with four boundaries and two sixes, but in the end, fell short of powering his side over the line as Buffaloes prevailed.

Mohammad Hafeez-led Buffaloes, batting first, accumulated a commendable 105/7 in 10 overs with Tom Banton and Mushfiqur Rahim leading their batting charge.

Banton scripted a solid start with an 18-ball 34 while Rahim finished it off strongly for the Buffaloes with a brisk 46-run knock which featured eight boundaries.
