Mohammad Amir to play for Trent Rockets in The Hundred 2026

LONDON: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has been signed by Trent Rockets for The Hundred 2026, set to run from 21 July to 16 August.

The franchise confirmed the announcement in a press release statement.

“Fast bowler Mohammad Amir will replace David Payne, who continues his recovery from an ankle injury. We wish David all the best in his recovery,” the caption of the post read.

After the signing, veteran pacer Amir expressed excitement about joining the franchise.

“Happy to be part of Trent Rockets,” Amir said.

Previously, the 34-year-old had played in three seasons of the tournament, representing both London Spirit and Oval Invincibles, and had taken six wickets in eight matches.

Besides Amir, Pakistan’s mystery spin duo of Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq are also part of the tournament and will represent Sunrisers Leeds and Birmingham Phoenix, respectively.

Phoenix acquired Tariq’s services for £140,000 (approximately PKR 53.2 million), making him the first Pakistani player picked in the auction after Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, and Saim Ayub went unsold in their respective rounds.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Leeds, the IPL-affiliated franchise formerly known as Northern Superchargers, secured Abrar Ahmed for £190,000 (approximately PKR 71.2 million).

The opening match of the Hundred 2026 will be played between MI London and Sunrisers Leeds at The Oval.

Currently, Amir is featuring in the T20 Blast for Nottinghamshire as a local player and has picked up four wickets in five matches at an average of 22.09 and an economy rate of 7.62.

He was picked up as a replacement player for Afghanistan’s AM Ghazanfar, who withdrew from the tournament to manage his workload.

Amir represented Pakistan in 159 international matches and picked up 271 wickets before calling it a day in 2024. In May, he became a British Citizen after obtaining a UK passport.
